NFL Lockout

As you may know, the National Football League is undergoing what is called a "lockout". In other words the players and owners are in disagreement over pay distribution and are in need of a new collective bargaining agreement. There has been no player-coach contact so far and recently the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the NFL would receive irreparable harm from if ending the lockout. As of now the lockout will remain in place at least until June 3rd which is when the next hearing is.

  1. I haven't heard this yet, but it seems like the NFL has been in the news a lot lately. Last I heard was that this one player donated his brain for research. Sorry, I forgot his name. Apparently he had a lot of concussions though during his career and suffered greatly. Hopefully they will make football safer through the research they do.

  2. I am surprisingly very into football. (Yes, I'm a girl) I've been trying to keep up with this whole lockout scenario. I've had many conversations about it and really it just comes down to greed. I'm not saying the owners shouldn't be to blame, because they are just as selfish at the players. HOWEVER, they ARE the owners and the players really shouldn't be worried about how much they make. The owners are the reason they even get the opportunity to play. They can get Joe Blow off the street who would do ANYTHING for the chance to play football, who could probably play almost as good as some of the best in the league. The players make too much money as it is, ESPECIALLY the new draft picks. They haven't stepped one foot out onto the field and players like Cam Newton are already guaranteed a $60 million contract. Additionally, current players are complaining because they have to (gasp) watch dvd's at home instead of going out to the movies. Wow, I don't feel sorry them. They want us fans to have sympathy for them, but if they weren't blowing their salaries on million dollar mansions and Range Rovers then they wouldn't be in a financial bind. Coming from someone who has lived on no income other than money coming in from school, it really aggravates me to read about the players complaining. Don't get me wrong, I want football back as much as the next fan, but the whole situation is getting old real quick. It needs to be handled or they are BOTH going to lose a ton of money.
